Freedom from Chronic Dieting

Unlearn the diet mentality and build a peaceful relationship to food & body

Have you been on more diets that you can count? Perhaps you were put on a diet at a young age and have cycled through countless diets since. The reality (and the evidence) is that diets don’t work in the long term for a majority of people. Our bodies are hardwired for survival – and that means when we try to restrict our eating and cut out foods (like carbohydrates), our bodies fight back. And then we get stuck in a diet-binge cycle where we go through periods of feeling out-of-control with food, feeling like we’ve failed, wondering what’s wrong with me

I think what’s wrong is the billion dollar diet industry and diet culture that surrounds us. These diets cause confusion with eating and mistrust in our bodies. Not sure if you’re impacted? See below for common signs of chronic dieting.

Signs of diet mentality & chronic dieting

Behaviours

  • You cycle between periods of dieting and eating “clean” and periods of giving up and feeling out-of-control with food.
  • You can’t keep certain foods in the house for fear of eating too much.
  • You skip meals during the day, only to overeat at night; or maybe you graze and snack all day, never truly feeling hungry.

Thoughts

  • You classify food as “good” and “bad” or “healthy” and “unhealthy”.
  • You have certain rules around eating sugar, carbs, and fat and you feel badly if you break the rules.
  • You have constant dialogue in your mind around how many calories/points/macros/servings to eat.

Feelings

  • You feel bad and guilty for eating certain foods.
  • You feel confused about nutrition information and what to eat.
  • You feel frustrated with your body size.

A peaceful relationship with food & body is possible!

If you’re tired of thinking about food and struggling with your body, it doesn’t have to be that way! It’s possible to break free from the cycle of dieting and reconnect with your body in a differnt way. It’s possible to trust yourself around eating different foods while honouring your health and nourishing your body.

Signs that you're ready for support

You're tired of:

  • Dieting and feeling deprived.

  • Tracking calories (or macros / points / servings sizes, etc etc) and measuring food.

  • Constantly thinking about your body and struggling with your body size.

  • Feeling confused about how to feed your body.

You want to:

  • Eat your favourite foods without feeling out-of-control.
  • Reconnect with your hunger and fullness cues to guide eating.
  • Worry less about food and have more time for other things in your life.
  • Understand why you might struggle with eating “emotionally” and learn different ways to care for yourself.
  • Improve how you view your body and treat it with kindness and respect.
  • Think less about your body and live more fully in it.
  • Role model a healthy relationship to food & body for your kids.

My Approach

Working with me involves unpacking your dieting history and understanding the impact of this on your current eating habits. We explore the mentality that you have around food and we work towards expanding your view of food so that you can break away from the past diet rules that no longer serve you. We move towards offering yourself permission to eat a wide variety of foods while balancing any concerns you may have around health.

I bring a gentle curiousity (and playfulness!) to our work together. I also bring together my experience with nutrition, mind, and body to do this work.

Nutrition

I complete a nutrition assessment and offer you feedback on how you’re doing with meeting your body’s nutrition needs. I work with you to brainstorm ideas and come up with a rough plan to help nourish your body.

Mind

We explore your dieting history and the beliefs that you have about food. We challenge diet rules and bring in objective information about food that's rooted in science and physiology. I support you to unlearn diet culture beliefs around body size and weight.

Body

I help you to reconnect with your body's cues of hunger and fullness. We practice eating activities together to offer your body a different experience with food. We find ways new ways to take care of your body.
