Hi, I'm Selene!

Instead of following rigid diet rules that often lead to shame and guilt around eating, I teach individuals to turn inwards to guide eating. This practice of gentle awareness allows you to develop flexibility with your eating and live more fully in your body.

Instead of fighting the body’s biology through restriction and deprivation, I can help with repairing the body’s metabolism by guiding you to meet your body’s nutrient needs. Are carbohydrates really that “bad”? I can help you navigate through the confusing nutrition information so that food decisions take up a smaller part of your life.

Beyond nutrition, I take the time to explore the body’s experience. I teach strategies to help regulate the body’s nervous system. This work may increase your capacity to manage tough situations so that you may take better care of yourself. Through the creative use of mindfulness, movement techniques, and sensory tools, I can help with connecting body to mind.

Others describe me as warm, compassionate, and effective. Overall, I hope to help you feel more at home in your body so that you have the freedom to pursue other things in your life.

Did you know? I’m the monthly nutrition columnist for the Edmonton AM CBC Radio show! You can catch me on the air the first Monday of each month at 7:50am. Check out the recordings from past shows here.

Somatic Experiencing

Along with being a dietitian certified in Intuitive Eating, I am also a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). This means that I take a body-based approach to my work and support nervous system regulation. I am also an assistant in Somatic Experiencing trainings and am an approved provider for SE personal sessions at the Beginner level.

On a Personal Note

I love my work and supporting others. On a personal level, I treasure my relationships and connecting with the community around me. I’m the second-born child of very industrious immigrant parents. Culturally I grew up with an east-meets-west way of eating (cue the holiday dinners that involve both rice and potatoes).

Currently I am a cat mom of a (super) senior cat. I adore thrifting and get surprisingly gleeful whenever I can reuse something old in place of buying something new.

And I love to move my body in different ways! Dancing-in-the-kitchen-while-cooking, cycling, and rock climbing are some of my favourite activities.
